June 2004 - Impact Marcom were awarded a contract with Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust to design and commission two Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) rooms for Hammersmith and Charing Cross hospitals.

Although only a few miles apart, the logistical difficulties of travelling between the sites was restricting the time that surgeons and consultants could devote to patient case studies whilst in MDT meetings and a solution was required.

Multi Disciplinary Team ( MDT) meetings, where patient case studies are simultaneously evaluated by a number of consultants from various medical disciplines, are now commonplace. The opportunity to involve consultants in joint MDT meetings, regardless of their location is a goal that many Health Trusts are striving to achieve.

A solution to the problem was envisaged by utilising videoconferencing technology along with the latest high-resolution display devices. After favourable consideration to the Impact Marcom bid, Hammersmith Hospital Trust entered into discussions with Impact Marcom to refine the design proposals. The result was a unique and bespoke MDT environment that would allow local and remote delegates to enjoy unparalleled image quality in a true interactive environment.

The project had all the advantages and all the disadvantages of a ‘clean sheet’ design and required complex project management in addition to specialised design and integration of sophisticated videoconferencing technology.

Whilst only robust and proven products were used in the design it was important that the resilience of the systems were supported by a comprehensive service and maintenance package giving rapid response to requests for technical assistance. Impact Marcom introduced advanced remote monitoring and control into the design that effectively reduced on going maintenance charges and dramatically improved the response time to technical requests.
